  1. Place steak in freezer for 30 to 45 minutes; this makes it easier to slice the meat
  2. Heat 2 tablespoon of butter and 1 tablespoon of oil in a large sauté pan over medium heat. Add the onions, season with salt and pepper, and cook slowly for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Add the peppers and mushrooms and cook for an additional 20 minutes, until the onions are caramelized and golden brown. Transfer to a bowl.
  4. Meanwhile, remove the steak from the freezer. With a sharp knife, slice the meat into very thin strips.
  5. Turn the skillet to a medium-high heat and add the remaining oil. Add the meat, season and cook until it is done to your liking.
  6. Divide the meat among the 4 rolls, top with onions, peppers and mushroom. Top with cheese and place in a warm oven to melt slightly.
