Extranet Business Portal

In 2007, I helped a Pacific-Northwest Truck Manufacturing company migrate their Extranet Business Portal from Microsoft Content Management Server 2001 to Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.

This customer had 3 Site Collections, 2,000 Sites and 18,000 pages of content. We assisted the customer by reducing their 700 CMS Templates down to 40 reusable Page Layouts. My team developed the Page Layouts and provisioning tools to create the site structure, configure the sites and apply security. We provided a third-party with the mapping information that was used to migrate the actual CMS data.

One of the biggest challenges for the customer was that they required a complex security scheme that exceeded the supported limits of SharePoint. To work around this limitation, I created a custom security solution that integrated with the customer’s e-Commerce system. Security was implemented through an HTTP Module, custom server-side controls and a custom SiteNavigationProvider.

During this project, I gained extensive experience with the SharePoint API’s, SharePoint Web Services, Web Parts, server-side controls and HTTP Modules.
